Reflecting on Our Mental Health Clinic Day: A Step Toward Healing and Hope, the HUGS Organization held a transformative Mental Health Clinic Day at Nairobi, where healing, understanding, growth, and support truly came alive.
The event brought together over 200 community members, mental health professionals, volunteers, and peer supporters for a full day dedicated to open conversations, education, and access to care. With the theme “You Are Not Alone,” our goal was simple: to let people know that their mental health matters and help is within reach.
What We Offered
Our Mental Health Clinic Day featured a variety of free services and interactive sessions, including:
One-on-one counseling sessions with licensed psychologists and counselors.
Mental health screening and assessments for conditions like anxiety, depression, and stress.
Group therapy circles, where individuals shared their stories and found strength in community.
Workshops on stress management, self-care routines, and emotional resilience.
A special session for teens and young adults to discuss social media pressure and identity.
We also provided referrals for those needing continued support and distributed informational materials on mental health resources available in the region.
Breaking the Stigma, One Story at a Time
One of the most powerful moments of the day came during our open mic session, where participants bravely shared their personal mental health journeys. From young adults battling depression to parents coping with the stress of caregiving, each story echoed a common truth: healing begins when we talk about it.
“This event helped me realize I’m not broken—I’m just human. And I’m not alone,” said Grace, a participant who attended the trauma healing session.
These moments remind us why we do what we do. They remind us that vulnerability is strength and that community support can be life-changing.
Why Events Like This Matter
In Kenya, mental health remains heavily stigmatized, with limited access to services—especially in rural areas. Many people suffer in silence due to fear, shame, or lack of information. At HUGS, we are working to change that narrative by bringing mental health services directly to the community and making them accessible to all.
Our Mental Health Clinic Day is more than just an event—it’s part of our larger mission to create a culture where mental health is openly discussed, compassion is abundant, and no one feels alone in their struggle.
Thank You to Our Partners and Volunteers
We extend our deepest gratitude to our volunteer counselors, local partners, and community leaders who made this event possible. Your dedication and compassion brought light to so many lives.
