On 11th July 2020, We held (S)GBV training workshop in Kiambu county, Ruiru Sub County. Our trainees were the Ruiru Sub County (S)GBV Group. The sub-county has eight(8) wards and at least two representatives from each ward attended the training.

Some of the training objectives were to;-
- Understand the different meanings of the English words “sex” and “gender”.
- Explore social and cultural expectations for males and females, and illustrate the difference between those based on sex and those based on gender.
- Reinforce the meaning of gender.
- Identify the relationship between abuse of power and (S)GBV.
- Understand that the term “violence” in the context of (S)GBV means using some type of force, which may or may not include physical force.
- Understand the meaning of “informed consent” and its relationship to (S)GBV.
- To understand the relationship between human rights and (S)GBV.
- To understand the difference between a “survivor” and a “victim” and the importance of using these words and choosing which to use and when.
- Identify and define terms often used to describe gender-based violence.
- Understand that the variances in acronyms used by different organizations is an illustration of the wide range of issues involved in conceptualizing and addressing violence against women and children.
